Lucky St. Patrick

16 Mar

Hello Glamourites,

I thought I would help you get through the Monday blues today by giving you some fun ideas you can put to use tomorrow for St. Patrick’s Day! I know it’s a Tuesday tomorrow but you can still have some fun by dressing in all green or bake green food to make the day special. Bring some special treats to work or have some friends over for some Shamrock punch and gold chocolate! Check out the pictures for details…

How cleaver is this dessert – you use a cookie for the base then add a marshmallow and dip it all in chocolate! Check out The Cake Blog for original directions.

Green for Spring

10 Mar

Hello Glamourites,

I got a little too excited yesterday when the temperature outside went above 0 degrees! I know that’s definitely not anywhere near to being a warm spring day, but it is a big improvement from negative 26 with wind chill. In getting excited about spring being around the corner, I started brainstorming ways to lighten up your home by adding a fresh feel. This can easily be done by putting a new coat of paint on the wall, reupholstering furniture, spray painting wooden chairs or even buying some new plants. Green is the perfect colour in many ways; it is known as the colour of balance and harmony and of course is the symbol of regrowth or spring. I hope it is warming up wherever you are and you get a chance to add some green to your house!

Swing from the Chandelier

8 Feb

Hello Glamourites,

In regards to design I find that my own style is constantly changing, more accurately it’s probably forever evolving. I also think that this could be dependant on my mood, as to which colours or emotion I want to portray in a space. This can be hard if you’re constantly trying to change rooms in your home to match your current style. There are several ways you can do this without tearing apart the entire room or bringing walls down, it can range depending on your budget as well. One solution to this is updating your light fixtures, more specifically the chandelier. I believe chandeliers are a large statement piece in a room and are a great addition to any room no matter the style or size. Most people will associate chandeliers with the classic ballroom type with oversized crystals and a radius too obnoxious for any normal size room. However this is definitely not the only chandelier available anymore, there are thousands of designs and styles to fit everyones needs and character. Take a look at some of the inspiration pictures I found and perhaps you will soon be upgrading your dinning room lighting!

xx Glamour Planner

Something like this was probably what came to mind when you thought chandelier… I like this fixture in this space because it is mixing glamourous and rustic together with the worn wooden table. Because the table it very large and heavy it balances out and allows for a large light fixture above.  chandelier2

Here is a much more modern take on chandelier, it is eye catching with the use of scattered glass ovals playing with depth and height.

chandelier

This fixture has the typical structure of a stereotypical chandelier however it is simplified, only using the steams to create the shape and no extra hanging accessories.

chandelier4

If you are looking for something extra unique this could be the solution for you. It can be a great DIY project as well, take wine bottles or mason jars and put the bulb inside the bottle then attach it to a board or a something to support the fixtures to the ceiling.

When you have a space with high ceilings you can get away with any size of chandelier like this baroque inspired piece.

Another simple DIY chandelier for over a four seat kitchen table or reading nook.

Winter White

16 Jan

Hello Glamourites,

I hope everyone had a successful week and have some fun plans for the weekend! Unfortunately the temperature here is too cold for me outside to be motivated to go outside and do anything. Instead I decided to put together this post about using white in your design choice for the house. Many people are intimidated by white because they are afraid of it looking boring or giving off a cold feeling. However, using the appropriate textures and shades of white, dependent on the space it can feel extremely cozy and elegant. Take a look at some inspiration pictures I pulled from pinterest and maybe you will dare to try to go white!

xx Glamour Planner
For this kitchen the white cupboards are accented perfectly against the black counter top and the beautiful silver wall tiling. Using these bold colours will be enough of a statement without having to accessorize the kitchen at all which inevitably clutters up space.winterwhite

White in the bedroom may seem like a huge hassle but it is well worth it! You will feel as if you are in your private hotel suite every night and it also allows you to change up throw pillows or other accessories seasonally for something new.winterwhite4

I don’t think anyone could argue they wouldn’t want to curl up in this living room for an intimate night in.

winterwhite5

Using white marble in the bathroom allows for easy clean up after bath time and will bring your mind to another place while you relax during your “me” time.

If you are still hesitant about going the all white route, you can add a statement piece in the room, done below with emerald bar chairs.

Simple yet Striking

6 Aug

Hello Glamourites,

Sometimes we look over the smaller or less noticeable things around us and never think what they could be turned into. By pairing simple and bold objects or design together you get a beautiful outcome. Like having black and white together, completely opposite but work perfectly and compliment each other. Here are some situations where a space may have been plain but brought to life with some drama. Hope to enjoy the inspiration xx Glamour Planner

SS

A regular white couch is fine, nothing exciting…add an oversize art piece behind, bam!

SS4This room may have been a tad average but once adding the full height door windows adds a sense of theatric. SS5I love the contrast here between the rough old brick wall and natural floor against the floral colourful bed ensemble.

SS2White on white? Add the detailed headboard and you really have a statement made.

SS3The bold colours and textures used in this bedroom with the clean and straight structure lines make a large impact.

The Vintage S’more

23 May

Hello Glamourites!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful and beautiful May, I love that spring is finally here! If you are starting to crave some of those roasted s’mores by the fire here is an easy recipe for you to make at home! Follow the recipe below and treat yourself this weekend 🙂 xx Glamour Planner

SmoreIngredients:

  • 6 gluten free graham cookies (roughly 1 Cup crushed/pulsed in food processor into crumbs). If you don’t have any, use 1 cup of gluten free quick oats, or 1 cup regular graham crumbs.
  • 2/3 Cup unsweetened shredded coconut
  • 1/3 Cup butter, melted
  • 1 Egg white
  • 1 Jar marshmallow fluff
  • 3 1/2 Cups chocolate chips
  • 1 Tbsp butter

Method:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F

2. Grease the short ends of a a 9×13 baking pan with butter, then line the pan with parchment, leaving “handles” hanging over the long ends. Set aside

3.In a medium sized bowl combine the cookie crumbs (or oats), coconut, melted butter and egg white. Press into the prepared baking pan.

4. Bake for 19-21 minutes, until you have a nice golden colour.

5. As the bottom bakes, place the chocolate chips and 1 tbsp of butter into a sauce pan, or in a microwavable bowl, and warm (stirring every so often) until melted and smooth. Let cool slightly.

6. Just before the bottom is done baking, warm the mallow fluff, either by warming it in it’s jar in the microwave (with the lid and protective seal removed), or by emptying the fluff into a small sauce pan on the stove and warming.

7. When the bottom is finished baking, take it out of the oven, and place it onto a cooling rack. Plop down blobs of the marshmallow fluff over the base, then gently spread around to cover it.

8. Drizzle the melted (and slightly cooled) chocolate over the marshmallow fluff, and very gently spread around.

9. Leave this to set in the fridge for about 2 hours. Then, take it out of the fridge and allow to soften oh so slightly (the chocolate top can be tricky to cut without smoooshing the mallow fluff out. I keep thinking that if you score the top after it’s starting to set in the fridge {maybe after an hour?|, that it would really make cutting them easier). Using a hot knife, cut into squares and devour! Or share with others if you must….

Let the Vitamin D in!

8 May

Hi Glamourites!

The weather the past few days has been absolutely beautiful and all I wanted to do was be outside enjoying the sunshine! If you are stuck inside doing work but you still want to enjoy those sunny days….the answer, windows!! I could not live in a house that doesn’t have any windows {or few of them}. I love to have natural light at all times and a beautiful view doesn’t hurt either. Here are some homes where they have incorporated lots of windows perfectly into the design. Let me know if you like xx Glamour Planner

Eating breakfast on a Monday morning at this table you couldn’t help but smile looking out.WindowsTable

In the bathroom it is incredibly important to have natural light for applying makeup. Often we will put on too much foundation or bronzer because we don’t have the correct lighting and when you leave the house it turns out you look like a cake!

WindowsBathroom

Sometimes cooking dinner can be a pain but when you have skylights or big windows to fill your kitchen with vitamin D it makes the job much more enjoyable!

WindowsKitchen

Okay I know you don’t want the sunrise waking you up at 5:30 in the morning which is why they invented curtains…but windows in the bedroom can be amazing and create a special place for you to wake up. Imagine how peaceful this setting would be as you great ready for bed or just want some quiet time to yourself?

Of course windows anywhere in the house work perfectly, especially where you will be entertaining guests. It’s a great way to show off your home and where you live!

Holiday DECOR

19 Dec

Hi Glamouirtes!

Hope everyone is getting prepared for Christmas…now only 6 days away!! Here are some of my favourite holiday decorating inspirations to add some festive cheer to your house. Transforming your home with those cozy touches completes Christmas for me; it brings joy and some sparkle and you can’t help but just smile! Let me know what some of your decor traditions are this time of year  xx Glamour Planner

Poinsettias, poinsettias, poinsettias! The most festive and bright floral plant can create an instantly more dramatic entrance way. These seasonal plants can also been placed around the house for a pop of colour.holidaydecor2

Christmas bulbs are not just for the tree….you can use a thick white string and hang them from your ceiling or chandelier or, as shown here, hang them from in clusters using ribbon. holidaydecor4

Garland or fresh leaf branches from the outdoors make a beautiful display on your mantle, counter, or as part of a table centrepiece. Grab some pine cones, berries or interesting things you may find to add colour and a festive flair.
holidaydecor3
Taking a wreath {doesn’t necessarily have to be red} add a leather belt or fabric around for a look-a-like Santa belt! Cute for a front door entrance.

A fun and easy way to create centrepieces or decorations is by putting bulbs, beads, cranberries, or any other objects into a vase!holidaydecor6

Eat Here!

7 Oct

Hello Glamourites,

Been a busy and fun-filled weekend for me topped with LOTS of eating. Food has got to be one of my favourite things in this world, I really wish I could eat all day and not gain weight haha I know, not possible. All this got me thinking about kitchens, this is where all the food prep happens, eating and when parties are happening people always seem to gather in the kitchen. It’s a central area and always seems to be where the hub of the home is. Here are some differently styles of kitchens that got me thinking about my dream kitchen xx Glamour Planner

Wall Glam

22 Sep

Hi Glamourites,

Hope everyone had a relaxing and fun weekend, I know I did! When creating a design or looking at a home I love for there to be that extra little extra spark to the room. I find this to be easily achieved by using wallpaper. With the large selection of choices that are available now you can do almost anything imaginable for your taste or preference! It is also a quick fix to a room if you are wanting to spruce it up or a do it yourself project. Here are some room’s that the focus and life comes from the wallpaper. xx Glamour Planner

How amazingly awesome is this wallpaper! Of course being in the right room and vibe you are wanting to create.wallpapertropical

Although this is a very neutral space it is perfect how the wallpaper adds dimension with the large pattern.
wallpapergrey

This organic style splatter is a perfect background when you want something interesting but not too bold to take away from the other furniture or objects in the room. wallpaperorganic

Pick your favourite city or map and make it into wallpaper for a feature wall!

If you are looking for something to make a statement, this would be it. I would keep this to just a portion of the room considering the busyness in the paper. wallpapergold
